Climbing, Caving & COPE
The Atlanta Area Council is proud to offer Climbing and Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience (COPE) programs at both Bert Adams Scout Camp and Woodruff Scout Camp as well as off-site caving programs. These programs are available during summer camp and on select weekends throughout the year.
Training is also available throughout the year for adult volunteers who are interested in facilitating climbing, COPE and other high ropes element programming.
The Atlanta Area Council invites all Troops, Crews, Ships and Posts to come out and enjoy a weekend of Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience at the Project COPE Course at either Woodruff Scout Camp or Bert Adams Scout Camp.
Project COPE is a national program of the Boy Scouts of America. This program is composed of group initiative games, trust events, low-course events, and high-course events. Some activities involve a group challenge, while others develop individual skills, agility and self confidence. Participants climb, swing, balance, jump, rappel, and devise solutions to a variety of problems. Most participants achieve much more than they imagined they could.
Age: All Scouts can participate in COPE, but the high ropes course is limited to Scouts ages 13 and up. Only currently registered Scouts/Units can participate.
Equipment: Bring sunscreen, water bottle, boots or sturdy shoes, rain gear, and long pants.
Cost: $30.00 per participant (includes patch) and is limited to the first 48 paid participants.
Deadline: 2 weeks prior to the event. Please notify the Program Center of any changes to your reservation.
Hold Harmless/Consent Forms: All COPE participants are required to complete the Hold Harmless and/or Informed Consent Forms prior to and participation in COPE. Forms are available on the Council website.
Food/Camping Gear: Participants are responsible for their own camping equipment and food.
Customized, high adventure trips to a variety of local caves for Troops, Patrols and Crews. Groups of all ages will enjoy the beauty and wonder of exploring some of the best caves in the country. For participants 14 years old and older, there is also the option of visiting a vertical cave.
For Scout Troops that want to cave as larger groups, we will train a number of your leaders and then accompany them and your Troop to a local cave.
All trips are customized to your wants and skill level and are scheduled on an individual basis. Horizontal caving trips are $5 per participant, while there is a $25 per participant cost for vertical caving. Helmets are provided to all participants, and in addition, harnesses and all technical equipment are provided to vertical cavers. Participants must provide their own lights (3 per person).

The Atlanta Area Council offers training to certify adult volunteers as Climbing and COPE instructors. The training is offered at Atlanta Area Council camp properties throughout the year.
